How to Wash Printed Clothes So the Joke Lasts

A good joke should get better with time. A good print should at least not get worse. The good news: keeping your Witty Weirdos tees and hoodies looking sharp takes about ten extra seconds per wash.

The golden rules

  1. Turn it inside out. This protects the print from rubbing against zips, jeans and everything else in the drum.
  2. Wash cold. Cold or lukewarm water (30°C / 86°F or below) is kinder to both the ink and the fabric, and it helps stop shrinking.
  3. Go gentle. A gentle or delicate cycle with similar colors keeps everything happier.
  4. Skip the bleach and fabric softener. Both can break down the print over time.

Drying without the drama

Air-drying is the gold standard: hang it up or lay it flat and let it do its thing. If you need the dryer, use the lowest heat setting and take it out while it’s still a little damp. High heat is the number one reason prints crack and shirts shrink.

Ironing (if you really must)

Iron inside out on low heat, and never iron directly on the print. If you need to press the design area, put a thin cloth between the iron and the shirt.
